1. Entrance depth is extremely shallow and in some cases, at low tide, unsafe and virtually un-navigable. This is for no other reason than Marina Management simply does not adequately maintain the depth to acceptable - and safe - standards. Bottom strikes, prop/shaft damage and boats running aground, or requiring a tow off by the Coast Guard are a regular occurance and it's been going on for years. It's the greatest issue of concern to our members, and all marina residents.

2. The security infrastructure
at the marina is antiquated and when compared to current standards, can only be desribed as "pathetic". Boat break-ins and boat vandalism are a regular occurance, with J-Row being the most vulnerable. Cars parked in the car parks are also under threat. They've been talking about upgrading the security setup for years, but we're still waiting to see any major improvements. This is the other issue of major concern to our members.

3. Marina Management
of this family owned business continues to disappoint members and marina residents with their lack of concern to, and definitive action on issues such as above that directly affect the quality of life at the marina. Further, as recently discussed in many other areas of our website, rather than actually address these real and legitimate issues, their response to valid criticism has been to attempt to terminate the boat storage of the complainants. Currently they are engaged in a protracted attempt to terminate SKMC's founder and General Manager's ability to berth his boat at the marina. It's a throwback to the days of Dictators, and the Soviet Empire. Silence the critics and everybody else will shut up and behave.

They won't tell you or any other prospective berthee any of this information. We just did because you have a right to know.

Don't get us wrong - we love St Kilda Marina. It's an awesome location and full of friendly boaties! We're just sick and tired of the way it's managed - or mismanaged. There are over 60 members of SKMC at the marina, and all residents want, and have every right to expect, is a safe and navigable entrance, and security standards commensurate with the fact that there is around $50,000,000 worth of boats stored at the marina, and often a couple of million bucks worth of residents cars parked in the car parks.

"If Greg Spooner spent as much time and effort addressing the problems that plague our marina instead of wasting precious resources on a nasty and petty attempt to kick out our club's GM, the marina would be in a far better situation, standards would be much higher than they currently are, and ironically, we'd have no reasons to complain."
- SKMC Member Rob

"We're not asking for a jacuzzi or putting green... Just a safe and properly maintained entrance depth and the ability to know that our property is secure when berthed or parked at the marina."
- SKMC Member Pam

"Water restrictions have been in place now for years so why are we still waiting for marina management to assist us to maintain our boats without the need to use any fresh water? Where's the rainwater tanks or desalinator they've been talking about for ages?"
- SKMC Member Susi

There are other issues that also concern our members, and information on all these subjects is available across our site.
